An Introduction to the North Coast
Welcome to the North Coast!
This is my wee part of the world. Now, I might be biased but I think it is one of the most beautiful places. With one of the world’s great road journeys- the Causeway Coastal Route- as voted by Lonely Planet, there are so many breath-taking scenes to see.
For those of you who don’t know, the North Coast has one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, the Giants Causeway. It’s listed with the likes of the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal and Machu Picchu- which I think is quite impressive. To us, the Giant’s Causeway is known as the 8th wonder of the world.
Another fun fact about the North Coast is that a lot of movies and tv shows have been filmed in and around the area. One of the biggest examples is Game of Thrones- it used the Dark Hedges as a background for one of their scenes. They also filmed the hit tv show at Downhill strand, Ballintoy Harbour and Murlough Bay. The Disney movie Artemis Fowl was also filmed in different locations in the North Coast, such as; Portrush, Whitepark Bay and at Dunluce Castle. It might come as no surprise but parts of the tv show Derry Girls was filmed in the North Coast. One example is in season 3, when the family travels to Portrush during the summer holidays to visit Barry’s amusements.

I feel very lucky to have grown up and to live with these views right on my doorstep. That is why I want to share with you these gorgeous places so that you too get to experience what I’ve been fortunate enough to have just around the corner.
